Vilma Viola (Mattis) Smith passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Atrium Health-Union in Monroe, NC at the age of 75.

Vilma was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on May 21, 1948, and migrated to the United States in 1970, where she lived in Chicago, for a number of years, before making her way to New Jersey,

where she called home for herself and her family. 

A stern yet loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Vilma believed in life having structure, the importance of family, and staying closely connected to the ones that she loved. 

Vilma is survived by her daughters, Keisha Smith (Eaton) and Shauna Smith, grandchildren Ashley Eaton, Nathaniel Eaton, Jason Eaton, Jordyn Heyward, Janelle Heyward and Sasha

Eaton, as well as hoops of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Church of the Epiphany and Christ Church, 105 Main Street, Orange, NJ 07050.
