Sophia A. Kearns, 66, Raeford, NC passed on Sunday, November 26, 2023.  Funeral will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Averys Chapel FWB Church, 902 Loop Road, Raeford, NC 28376.  Public Viewing, Friday, December 1, 2023, 12:00pm - 5:00pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington Street, Rockingham.  The family will receive friends and visitors at 482 Burke Road, Raeford, NC  28376. Nelson Funeral Service is serving the family.

Obituary

Sophia Ann Kearns was born on September 20, 1957, and departed this earthly life on November 26, 2023.  

She joined Avery's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church at an early age. She was baptized and accepted Christ and was a member of the Youth Choir.  She attended and graduated from Hoke County High School.

She was employed by the Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina until retirement.

Sophia leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Tavius Kearns and his wife, Termiker; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Davis Kearns; three grandchildren, Dau'Tavius Kearns, Sha'tia Jones, A'leah Jones; four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Geneva Joy, Christine Adams, Dorethea McCrimmon (Bobby), Irene McNeill, Joyce Faye Kearns, Sheryl Bethea (James); four brothers, Matthew Kearns, Bobby H. Kearns (Edna), Michael R. Kearns (Pearl), Christopher Campbell (Sheila); one uncle, Ben Davis, Jr.; a special aunt, Mother Val Jean Burke; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   

Sophia was preceded in death by her father, Matthew Kearns and two brother, Marvin Kearns and Harold Gillis.
