OBITUARY

Mr. Mitchell James McCain was born on February 17, 1942 to

the late Alexander McCain Sr. and Ester Mae Crowder McCain

in Richmond County, North Carolina. At 81 years of age, he

quietly departed this life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at

Hospice Haven, Rockingham, NC.

Mickey, known by many loved ones, family and friends, joined

Ellerbe Grove Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and was

a faithful member for many years. He attended Richmond County

Schools and was a graduate of Leak Street High School in

Rockingham, North Carolina. During his stay in Fayetteville NC,

he worked with Fayetteville State University and then with R.J.

Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston Salem, NC. He served

as a PFC in the U.S. Army from October 1966 until his honorable

discharge in September 1968. He also served as a long-time army

reservist while living in Winston Salem NC. When Mickey

returned home to care for his ailing father, he became employed

with Richmond Memorial Hospital and then Hamlet Hospital

until he retired.

Mickey was affectionately known to take the time to help and

assist whomever he could and in whatever capacity he could. If

one needed a vehicle, he didn’t mind lending his. If one needed

a confidant, his ears were always open to listen. And if one

needed a shoulder to cry on, his was always the first in sight.

Mitchell J. McCain was preceded in death by his siblings

Alexander McCain Jr., Freddie McCain, Edward McCain, and

Barbara McCain.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children: James E.

McCain (Rosa) of Kuwait, Michelle M. Wall of Rockingham, NC,

Shone P. McCain of Winston Salem, NC; three grandchildren,

Khalilah McCain, Abigail McCain and Emanuel McCain; one

Goddaughter, Gigi Dixie of Rockingham, NC; one God-Grand-

daughter, Ella Evelyn Parker; one brother, Willie McCain and one

sister, Annie McCain Brayboy, both of Fayetteville NC; loving

nieces, nephews, family and friends. Those who will also cherish

the memories of Mickey are long-time friends Lulu Smith and

Ella Dixie.

A very special tribute to Mrs. Marie Everette who considered

Mickey to be one of her own sons and would always call him “My

Mickey.” Also, to Barbara Everette, who lovingly said that Mickey

was her brother from another mother. Thank you, Mrs. Marie and

Barbara, for your ever loving-kindness that will never be forgotten.
