Lawrence Tyrone Dye

Lawrence Tyrone Dye, Sr. 68, Hamlet, NC passed on Monday, October 11, 2021.  Funeral will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at St. Peter United Methodist Church, 205 Bridges Street Hamlet, NC. Public Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, 12 -5 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington Street, Rockingham, NC. 

Lawrence Tyrone Dye, Sr. was born on April 7, 1953 to Perrie Dye and Bernice Johnson in Newark, New Jersey.  He was called home on Monday, October 11, 2021 unexpectedly at home. 

He attended grammar and high school in Newark, New Jersey and college at Rutger University in South Orange, New Jersey.  He relocated to hamlet, NC after the death of his father.  Hamlet quickly became his home.  

He worked for CSX Railroad and Amtrak from 1977 to 2000 as a Fireman and Engineer.  He loved attending church and sharing his love of God to everyone.  He was an avid Cowboy's fan. 

Lawrence was preceded in death by his father, Perrie Dye, his mother, Bernice Dye, a sister, Tracey Dye Diaz, and a brother,  Anthony Petrillo.

He leaves to cherish his memories:  his children, Patrice (Chris), Lawrence, Jr. (Pia/Jada), and Porsha; a sister, Patti Petrillo Alexander and a brother, Gerald Petrillo; four grandchildren, Laurin, Kaziah, Justin, and Infinity; one aunt Alice Hinson; two brother-in-laws, Carlos Diaz and Timothy Alexander; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He will be greatly missed by all.
