It is with deep sadness I relay to you news regarding the passing of Lauretta Pearl Wiggins on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Wadesboro Health & Rehabilitation located in Wadesboro, North Carolina around 2 am. The good Lord blessed her with a vibrate life of 96 years. Her life was a true tribute to her family and to her community. At Lauretta’s request, there will be a simple and brief grave side service held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:00 am at Anson Memorial Park which is located on NC HWY 742 S which is Chesterfield Road in Wadesboro, North Carolina. The Memorial Park is not far from the intersection of Capel Dairy Road & Chesterfield Road in Wadesboro. Burial services have been entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home under the direction of William “Chip” Knotts, Jr. Viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 1pm to 6 pm at Nelson Funeral Home located at 1021 East Washington Street, Rockingham, North Carolina 28379. Obituary
Ms. Lauretta Pearl Wiggins was born on July 6, 1927, in Richmond County, Black Jack Township of North Carolina. She was the third oldest child of the late Homer Sneed, Sr. and Sallie Ellerbe Sneed Wynn. She attended Pee Dee Elementary School, Henry Grove High School and Graduated from Rockingham Colored High School in Rockingham, North Carolina.
At age 17, she moved to New York where she worked as a home healthcare attendant and as a caterer. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in White Plains, New York where she served on the Usher Board. In 1995, she returned home to Lilesville, North Carolina and attended Laurel Hills Baptist Church, Laurel Hill, North Carolina where she was President of the Usher Board.
In 2012, Lauretta began attending Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Rockingham, North Carolina where she served on the Usher Board and became the Mother of the church until her passing.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, one son, Moses Wiggins, Jr. of Brooklyn, New York, her sister-n-law, Olga Sneed of Palm Coast, Florida, close friend Vivian Gatewood (the late Rev. Harvey Gatewood) and daughter, Alicia D. Warren of Morven, North Carolina; lifelong family friend Richard A. Frishman of Navada City, California; one niece, Phyllis M. Tillman of White Plains, New York; one nephew, Otha Harris (Vanessa) of Durham, North Carolina, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her father and mother, Homer David Sneed, Sr. and Sallie M. Ellerbe Sneed Wynn, and brother, Homer D. Sneed, Jr., and sisters, Ruby Sneed Harris, and Emma Sneed TIllman.
