Mr. Laster "Lap" Short passed on Saturday , July 24, 2021.

Mr. Laster “Lap” Short, Jr., son of the late Alaster Short, Sr. and Mrs. Ella Mae Short was born March 10, 1957 in Richmond County, Rockingham, NC. Laster graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 1976. At an early age he joined St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, Rockingham, NC where he was an Usher, sang with the Adult Choir, was assistant Secretary of the Trustee Board prior to becoming the President of the Trustee Board. He was also the Attire Coordinator of the Pastor’s Aide prior to becoming the President of the Pastor’s Aide. Laster worked in serval capacities at McDonalds in Rockingham; Richmond Memorial Hospital, Rockingham; BC Moores, Cheraw, SC; and Richmond Senior High School, Rockingham, NC. Laster had a love for softball. He was a member and pitcher for the Hawks and was a score keeper for the Carolina Wrecking Crew. He was preceded in death by his parents Alaster and Ella Mae Short, sisters; Susie Ann Short, Lizzie Mae Short, Deborah Ann Short and Barbara Ann Short, brothers; Shirrell Short, John Willie Short, Robert Short and Thomas Alvin Harrington. Laster leaves to cherish his memories his daughters; Nakeisha Shaveyon Short of Rockingham, NC and Antoinette Darlene Hamilton of Hamlet, NC, a son; Eric Donnell Malachi of Cheraw, SC, ex-wife; Julia Mae Malachi of Cheraw, SC, grandchildren; Shaniah Hamilton, Talisha Hamilton, and Khamani Hamilton, all of Hamlet, NC. A brother; Albert Short of Rockingham, NC, sisters; Ruthie Short Cole of Eagle Springs, NC. Diane Rogers of Rockingham, NC, Ella Moore (James) of Hamlet, NC; Benita Ingram (Billy) of Rockingham, NC; Betty Ann Short of Hamlet, NC and Patricia Ann Short of Rockingham, NC; sister-in-law Betty Ann Short of Hamlet, NC; aunts; Annie Lee Hamilton (John, Jr.) of Hamlet, NC and Mary Lee Short Sweat of Charlotte, NC; uncle; Thomas Lee Harvey; God-mother Ruthie Lee Short of Rockingham, NC. Special friends; Michael Mitchell, Al - vin Scott and Gary Adams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
