Jessica H. Horne (hereinafter: Jess), 32 years of age, passed on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Chapel Hill Hospital. She was born July 16, 1992, in Chapel Hill, NC.

Funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Ashley Chapel AME Zion Church, 332 Mizpah Road, Rockingham, NC. Public viewing Wednesday, January 15, 2025, 12 Noon until 5pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington Street, Rockingham, NC  28379.

Jess graduated from Richmond Senior High in 2011. Jess spent her last years as a SAHM, raising her son. Jess loved to shop and loved to get her nails done. She also loved spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, and friend. "To know her was to love her.”

Jess was proceeded in death grandmothers, Linda Nelson-Bright & Cora Lee Hayes, grandfathers, William Hayes Sr. & Earl Gould; uncles & aunts: Darren Nelson; Jimmy Pore; Cathy Lockett; Jackie Brown; Lafayette Gould; four cousins; & a god-brother. 

Jess leaves to cherish her loving memory her wife, Joanna Horne (Bae), son, Deshawn Little Jr. (June); Goddaughter, Constance Covington, parents, Patrick (Pat) & Iris Hayes (Tinky). Her siblings, Shaquira Nelson (Kavon); Patrick Hayes (Kristen) & Lashaun Hayes. Her niece, Delaney Hayes, nephews, Kyrie Hayes; Na’Siah Hayes; Ya’Meire Nelson. Two special grandma's Doris Allred (Nana) & Betty Harrington (grandma). Her grandfathers, Charles Bright; & Jimmy McKenzie. Her aunts, Toni Nelson; Jermika McKenzie; Trineda Little; Clara Scott; Teresa Legrand; Anna Mae (Jim)Brown; Sandra (Melton) Robinson; Debra (Richard) Douglas; Verna (Blank) Pearse. Her uncles, Jeremy McKenzie; JC McKenzie; Willie (Joann) Hayes; Keith Hayes; & Steve Gould. Two Godmothers, Carolyn Byrd & Tema Harrington; four God-siblings; and host of cousins and friends. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. Special thanks to everyone who donated monetary funds, sent flowers, cards, words of encouragement, etc. Special shout out to the RSHS class of 2011 for their special help.
