Obituary

Mr. James Alexander Woodard "Highback" 78, was the son of the late Alexander Woodard and Carrie Louise Woodard.  He was born on September 11, 1942 in Scotland County, NC  and departed this life on September 27, 2020 at Richmond County Hospice in Rockingham, NC.

James joined New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age where he was a dedicated, faithful member and a steward until his illness kept him from attending services.

James was educated in the public schools of Montgomery County.  He worked for CSX Transportation as a trackman for many years until his health declined and forced him into early retirement.  Upon retirement he became a jack of all trades engaging in many activities and becoming your everyday "Handy Man".  James was also a member of the Hamlet Review Masonic Lodge #105 and known as "pop" to the members of Playaz Elite Motorcycle Club.

James was preceded in death by: his loving wife of 56 years, Bertha Washington Woodard; his parents, Alexander and Carrie Woodard; two sons, Virginal Dockery and Marvin Dockery; three brothers, David, Herbert and Chris Woodard.

We who are left to honor and cherish his wonderful memories are:  four daughters, Carolyn McCoy (Clyde), Rockingham, NC, Alice Miller (Larry) Hamlet, NC, Sylvia Woodard  (Anthony) Hamlet, NC, and Vivian Little (Lancy), Rockingham, NC, three sons, William Lovett (Crystal), Franklinton, NC, Eugene Lovett (Mary), Louisville, KY and Rev.
