Irene Mae Smith-Cooper of Hamlet, NC, formerly of Ellerbe, NC as well as Fallston, MD passed away peacefully at Hospice Haven of Rockingham, NC on December 27, 2024.  She was 74 years young.  She loved life and her Lord.  It showed through her living and always taking care of others before herself.  Irene was a graduate of North Harford High School in Pylesville, MD.

Irene previously employed at Britthaven of Hamlet, NC, as well as Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehab Center till her retirement. Irene was a member of the Hot Mama’s Softball League, which was a passion of hers.  She always said, ‘I’m no good at it, but I love the ladies on the team.’

Irene is survived by two daughters of Hamlet.  She is also survived by several brothers, a sister and many nieces and nephews, as well as two grandsons and a granddaughter. Irene was predeceased by her husband James (Buddy), as well as her parents (Darl and Helen Smith), two brothers (Gary and Denzil) and a sister-in-law (Cindy).
