Felicia D. Powell, 57, of Fayetteville passed on Sunday, January 2, 2022. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 241 McGirts Bridge Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352. Nelson Funeral Service is serving the family.
Felicia "Fila" Deneen Powell went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Felicia was born on August 17, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York to Charles and Julia Powell. After high school and attending classes at Medgar Evers College where she met Justice Saunders in 1984 and the two were married in 1991. Felicia joined the Armed Services where she served as a Unit Supply Specialist later earning the rank of a Staff Sergeant. She served overseas tours in Germany, Korea and Egypt. She participated in the Gulf War during 1990-1991. She received many esteemed honors and awards during her military service and cherished the time she spent serving her country. After her military career ended in 2001, Felicia resided in Fayetteville, NC where she attended Fayetteville Community College obtaining her certification as a Nursing Assistant II. She worked at the Veteran Administrative Medical Center where she cared for her fellow veterans.
Felicia was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Julia Powell, adoptive mother Sally and a host of aunts and uncles. She is survived by a host of loving friends, extended family, and siblings in love Sherry, Kibe, Christopher, Edith, Prince Charles, Yolanda, DeLanta, Kishaun, Shemeeakah, Ralph, Ladaya, Kyarna, and sister-in law Regina. She was loved and cherished by a host of nieces and nephews and her Godson Kortne.
While words can never fully express the loving friend and sister Felicia was, she will be forever loved and remembered for her kind giving spirit, her humor and laughter, and her passion for life.
