Obituary
Mrs. Elaine Coley McGregor, daughter of the late Needham and Estelle Coley was born in Wayne County on June 20, 1926. She entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2021.
As the second oldest child, Elaine had the responsibility of helping with the care of her siblings. John Leslie Reid, James “Pete” Coley, Jimmy Morris Coley, and Margie Coley preceded her in death.
Mrs. McGregor received her early education in Wayne County, where she was an outstanding student and athlete. She received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from McCain Hospital, where she worked until retirement. While at McCain, her excellent skills and leadership provided her an opportunity to receive nursing surgical training certification. Doctors and patients often requested her to assist with their care.
Elaine met the love of her life, Gilbert McGregor, Jr. while attending nursing school. They were happily married for 67 years until his death in 2015. Their son, Ray, believes that his mother left to give PaPa an early birthday present (PaPa’s birthday was January 25).
Elaine became a member of Hooks Grove Baptist Church as a child and maintained her membership there attending when possible. In Raeford, Elaine supported Averys Chapel Church where she was embraced by the congregation.
Mrs. McGregor was a very devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her love and support will always be remembered. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Gilbert Ray McGregor (Frieda),
Grandchildren, Kellie R. McGregor, Jennifer M. Fields (David), and Gilbert Odell McGregor, sister Doris Fowler Ward, God-daughter Cathy Carthens (James) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
