Obituary
Catherine Spencer Nicholson, who was affectionately known as "Ma' to everyone, started he journey in life on March 3, 1934. She departed this portion of life on September 17, 2020.
She was educated in the Richmond County School system. "Ma" was loved by all and favored by many. She was employed at Belk Department Store in Rockingham, NC for 30 years where she retired. She met the love of her life Billy Nicholson, known as "Big Bill", at the Diggs Chapel AME Zion Church.
Catherine was a great fan of good food, fun and great conversation. "Ma" did not meet any strangers. She was affectionate and showed cpompassion to all she met. She was a gteat cook and loved to be around her family.
Catherine was a mother of twelve children, four boys and eight girls. Catherine was a matriarch of her family. She provided a beautiful home, guidance, encouragement and direction to them all. She always was lovingly sharing with all of her family and friends. She liked to make sure everyone was okay.
Catherine was preceded in death by: her loving husband of 61 years, Billy Nicholson; her parents, George Washington and Cornelia Bailey Spencer; one son, Linwood (Billy) Nicholson; four brothers; and four sisters.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her children, Cornelia Ingram (Billy) and Linda Nicholson of Washington, DC, Lisa Brown (Furman of Upper Marlboro, MD, Trina Brown of High Point, NC, Clara Scott, Diane Nicholson, and Judy Nicholson of Rockingham, NC, Marie Nicholson (Willy), her niece whom she raised as her daughter of Rockingham, NC, Elders Frank Leak (Darlene) of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Spencer and James Nicholson (Thomasina) of Rockingham, NC; her brother, Linwood Spencer; sisters-in-law, Emma Nicholson of Pittsburg, PA, Vivian Nicholson and Min. Lavonne Nicholson, of Washington, DC; brothers-in-law, Elder John Nicholson (Celeste) and Mathew Nicholson(Porche) of Pittsburg, PA; twenty-nine grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, two of which lived with her, Yanavia and Janavia Lewis; a host of great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, cousins, co-workers, food buddies and friends.
Catherine was a legacy five genertaions. She lived a life full of love and gratitude. She is loved and will be missed by many.
