Billy Wall Obituary

Mr. Billy Wall, 69, Rockingham, passed Saturday, January 30, 2021. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 1pm Monday, February 8, 2021 at Richmond Memorial Park, 1717 E. Broad Avenue, Rockingham, NC.  Public Viewing will be Sunday, February 7, 2021 12-5pm at Nelson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Billy Ray Wall can be made to Voice of Evangelism Church of God in Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 611, Morven, NC  28119.

Obituary

Mr. Billy Ray Wall (aka Bull Rabbit), son of the late Mr. William B. Tillman and Johnsie Wall Tillman, was born August 26, 1951.  He was called into eternal rest on Saturday morning, January 30, 2021 surrounded by the love of family.

He was reared in a strong family and a very close-knit community of Richmond County called "Green Street."  There a true sense of community and neighborhood principles were constantly shown.  Each family was an integral part of the community, and valued.  He received his public education in the Richmond County School System, attending Leak Street High School (before schools integrated).  Billy earned the reputation of an outstanding and exceptional basketball player and team member.  He graduated from Rockingham High School in 1969 (as first graduating class after integration).

Shortly, after graduation, he enlisted in the US Army in 1971, serving 7 years.  Billy completed Basic Training at Ft Campbell-Kentucky.  Additionally, he was stationed at Ft. Ord in Monterey County, California and completed a tour of duty in Korea.  Upon returning to the states, he was stationed at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina, as a member of the 82nd Airborne.  Billy was honorably discharged in 1978.

Billy was briefly employed at White's Poultry (Perdue) and Klopman Mill (Burlington Industry).  He also worked at Dawson Mill in Wadesboro, NC as a forklift driver.

He was preceded in death by his: father, William B. Tillman; his adored mother, Johnsie Wall Tillman; his sister Diane T. Johnson; and his loving and devoted Wife, Jeanette Watkins Wall.

Billy joined Voice of Evangelism C.O.G.I.C. in his later years and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour.  He faithfully attended bible study and online services until his death.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories and to honor his legacy of love and life his family:  Elaine (Fred) McDonald, William "Glen" (Hattie) Tillman, Ronald (Vanessa) Tillman, Howard Tillman, and Sandra Tillman, Joseph Johnson, Jr.  all of Rockingham, NC and Linda Tillman and Tracy Tillman, both of Bahama, NC.  Gonza Jones, Sandra Jones, Cathy (Mark) Bostic, and Glenda Jones all of Cabarrus County, NC and Sheila Jones, Patsy (Scottie) Gould all of Rockingham, NC and Tyrone Jones (of the home). Five Sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
