Obituary

Miss Betty Lewis, 76, Hamlet, passed Sunday, November 22, 2020.  Betty Jean Lewis departed her earthly life for her heavenly home.  She is the oldest daughter of the late Grover and Lessie Brown Lewis.  She left this earthly home at Hospice Haven of Richmond County.

She attended public schools of Richmond County graduating from Monroe Avenue High School in 1964.  She worked as an inspector at Hood Packaging for 30 years before retiring.  Betty joined New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age. She was a devoted member of New Bethel serving as General Claims Secretary on the Trustee Board and the Choir until her health failed.  She will be dearly missed by her church family as well as her dear family and friends.  Betty had such a beautiful spirit and smile that would light up a room.

She leaves to cherish her beloved memories:  a significant other for many years, Grayling Easterling, one brother, James (Sandra) Lewis of Alpharetta, Georgia; three sisters, Gloria (Reggie) Nance of Rockingham, North Carolina, Mary A. Lewis of Washington, DC, and Rhonda Moses of Rockingham, North Carolina;  six nieces, Tiffany, Lessie, Kelly, Tomiya, Tokiwa and Lorra; five nephews Barry, Jon-Paul, Charles II, Cedrick and Anthony; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great nephews, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
