Albert Junior Short, 76, of Rockingham, NC passed on Sunday, November 26, 2023.  Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm at St. Stephens Baptist Church, 434 St. Stevens Church Road, Rockingham, NC. Public Viewing, Saturday, December 2, 2023, 12:00pm until 5:00pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 1021 E. Washington Street, Rockingham, NC.  28379.  The family will receive friends and visitors at 170 5th Street Extension, Hamlet, NC  28345.  Nelson Funeral Service is serving the family.

Mr. Albert Junior Short “Duck”, son of the late Alaster Short, Sr. and Ella Lenoria Short, was born April 7,1947 in Richmond County, Rockingham, NC and departed this life November 26, 2023, at his residence under the care of Hospice Haven, Rockingham, NC.

Albert attended school at Leak Street Rockingham, NC and at an early age he joined St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, Rockingham, NC. Later Albert was inducted as the chairman of the Trustee Board.

Albert had a passionate love for baseball. He played softball with the Hawks softball team and later became the Hawks and Carolina Wrecking Crew Head Coach. He also helped with the #1 Goldbarrons girl softball team.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Short; sons, Timothy Napoleon Short (Tim), Christopher Elijah Short (Pig); grandson, Timothy Short Jr. (Little Tim); parents, Alaster Short, Sr. and Ella Lenoria Short; sisters, Susie Ann, Lizzie Mae, Deborah Ann, Barbara Ann Short; brothers, Laster (Lap), Shirrell (Koot), John Willie, Robert Short; and stepbrother, Thomas Alvin Harrington.

Albert leaves to cherish his loving memories: his daughters, Phyllis Johnson (Antonio), Debbie Short (Terry), Floretta Steele (Alvin) and Annette Brewington (Charles); sons, Albert Jr. Ingram (Alane), Boyce Harrington; his sisters, Ruthie Short Cole of Eagle Springs, NC, Diane Rogers of Rockingham, NC, Ella Moore (James) of Hamlet, NC, Benita Ingram of Rockingham, NC, Betty Ann Short of Hamlet, NC and Patricia Ann Short of Rockingham, NC; his aunt/sister, Annie Lee “My Baby” Hamilton (John) of Rockingham, NC; centenarian special aunt, Mary Lee Short Sweat of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Ruthie Lee Short, Shirley Mae Bloomfield, Lillian Gibson, Grace Diggs, Cynthia Taylor (Steve), Minnie Mae Ellerbe, Julia Mae Malachi of Wallace, SC; brothers-in-law, Robert Ellerbe (Mary), Willie Ellerbe, Press Ellerbe, Robin Green (Ivana); special daughter-in-law, Crystal Rebecca Short; longtime special childhood friend/brother-in-law, Abraham Ellerbe (Minnie); his “special heart”, his “big baby”, Tendrell Lockhart, Demonte Martin Man, Courtney Carter “Fat Boy”, Rah ‘Asia Adams (great-granddaughter), Tammy Short (special niece); special granddaughter, Aletha Short “Lee Lee”; twenty-eight (28) grandchildren; seventy-eight (78) great-grandchildren; four (4) great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins
